Weight, Blues top Canucks

Hockey Betting Lines

02/28/2007 - St. Louis, MO (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Doug Weight scored two goals as the St. Louis Blues downed the Vancouver Canucks, 3-1, at Scottrade Center.

David Backes added a goal and an assist and Curtis Sanford made 25 saves for the Blues, who have won five of their last six games.

Daniel Sedin had the lone goal and Roberto Luongo made 17 saves for the Canucks, who have dropped their last two games after a six-game winning streak.

St. Louis was one of the busiest teams at the trading deadline.

The Blues acquired forward Brad Boyes from the Boston Bruins for defenseman Dennis Wideman, and dealt forward Bill Guerin to the San Jose Sharks for left wing Ville Nieminen, prospect Jay Barriball and a first-round pick in the 2007 draft.

Also, on Sunday the Blues sent forward Keith Tkachuk to the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for forward Glen Metropolit and Atlanta's first and third round draft choices in 2007, and a second round draft choice in 2008. In addition, if Atlanta re-signs Tkachuk, the Blues will acquire a first-round draft selection in 2008.

Vancouver didn't make any deals at the deadline, but on Monday Vancouver made a pair of trades, acquiring center Bryan Smolinski from the Chicago Blackhawks for a 2007 second-round pick and defenseman Brent Sopel from the Los Angeles Kings for a second-round pick in 2007 or 2008 and a 2008 fourth-rounder for Sopel.

The game was tied in the third period, but the Blues grabbed a 2-1 lead when Weight was sprung for a breakaway and snapped a wrist shot into the right corner of the net with 10:39 to play.

St. Louis sealed the victory when, skating on a 5-on-3 power play, Weight banked a shot off of Vancouver's Willie Mitchell to make it a 3-1 game with 2:14 to go.

The teams only managed 10 shots on net in the first period, seven by Vancouver, all of which the goaltenders turned aside.

The Blues grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second when Radek Dvorak skated around the net and from the low left side slid the puck across the goalmouth to Backes, who tapped the puck into the net at the 11:55 mark.

Vancouver, though, answered just 65 seconds later when Sedin wrapped the puck into the net from the right side. The play was initially ruled a no-goal as it appeared that Sanford smothered the puck with his left arm before it crossed the goal line, but after a lengthy review officials determined that the puck had fully crossed over.

Game Notes

Before the game, the Blues gave forward Jamal Mayers a three-year contract extension...The Blues play at the Islanders on Thursday...Vancouver hosts Phoenix on Thursday...St. Louis went 1-for-5 on the power play while Vancouver did not score on any of its three chances...The Blues have won five of the last seven games in the series.

Super Bowl XLIII Betting - Super Bowl 2009

Super Bowl 2009, the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Let’s take a look at the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds and the betting line and figure out where they’ve been and where they are going to go.

MySportsbook.com put up the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds late on Sunday night with the Pittsburgh Steelers favored by 6.5 points and a total betting line at 47.5 points.

Since then, however, the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds have seen a good deal of movement and you’ll want to be on top of where they are likely to move to make sure you get the best line value for the big game.

Since opening, the Super Bowl 2009 betting lines went to Steelers -7 in the span of roughly 3 hours but were quickly bought back down just minutes later to 6.5 again.

After that is took about 5-6 more hours before the betting line went back to -7 where it has sat for a while now and is likely to remain. The opening betting total of 47.5 was bet down right after the line became available and went to 47 within minutes.

Roughly a day later it has been bet even further down to the 46.5 tally it currently is set at.

Roughly 60% of gamblers seem to be on the Cardinals here so the point spread will be bet down and a 7.5 would not last very long at all with many taking the early 6.5 in hopes of finding a potential middle in the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds.

If you like Arizona and see a 7.5, I’d take it as soon as possible because it’s unlikely to last. For Pittsburgh backers, the -7 might be the best you’ll be able to find but a 6.5 is definitely possible close to game time.

Regarding the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds for the total, most tracked gamblers are already on the over and with those who took the under 47.5 already securing a middle on the over 46.5, the only way I see it moving is back up to 47 so if you like the over, I’d recommend betting now.
